Join us on a Safari in 2019!

These one-day research trips on the fourth Wednesday of the month (except February) are wonderful opportunities to explore Southern California’s abundant research resources, with a group of friendly fellow genealogists. Check the listed website of the library for inspiration about what you will find there!

Departure times are from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Church parking lot, at 27978 Marguerite Parkway (between Medical Center Drive and Hillcrest). Longer trips include a stop for dinner on the way home. Please let Bill Bluett know that you are planning to attend, so that multiple carpools can be arranged when necessary.

January 23rd: Cole Library in Carlsbad
The Cole Library has an entire floor dedicated to genealogy! Over 30,000 books and many journals, society newsletters, microfilm, microfiche, and CD’s. February 23rd: Los Angeles Public Library
Los Angeles Public Library has more than 40,000 books, a huge map collection, microfilm, periodicals, historic newspapers, and City Directories on microfilm dating back to the late 1800’s – and much more! Note that this will be a Saturday departure for lighter traffic and $1 parking at the library. 630 West 5th, L.A.

March 27th: Burbank SCGS Library
Southern California Genealogical Society Library (SCGS). Thousands of books including a Cornwall, England, collection as well as a German and French collection. Also, there are CDs, maps, periodicals, manuscripts and a few computers. SCGS has a large membership, many special interest groups, and hosts the Jamboree Conference each year. 417 Irving Drive, Burbank, Ca. 91504

April 24th: FamilySearch Library in Orange
Orange County FamilySearch Library has a huge microfilm collection, records from the U.S. and overseas, 8,900 books, periodicals, maps, and 23 computers with 15 subscription databases. Free classes, annual Family History Fair. 674 S. Yorba Street, Orange, Ca. 92869 (714)997-7710

May 29th: San Diego Central Library
San Diego Central Library’s 9th floor genealogical collection includes over 10,000 titles, many containing multiple volumes, and many periodicals and surname files. They do have several computers. This society received a large portion of our library collection when we downsized several years ago. The downtown location is 330 Park Blvd, San Diego 92101 (760)306-6700

June 26th: Huntington Beach Public Library
Huntington Beach Central Library holds over 18,000 books in the large genealogy section. (There are no computers in the genealogy area, you may wish to bring one.) September 25th: L. A. FamilySearch Library
Los Angeles FamilySearch Library is one of the largest outside Salt Lake City. 6000 books, 56,000 rolls of microfilm (Worldwide), 40,000 microfiche, map collections, 86 computers. October 23rd: San Diego FamilySearch Library
San Diego FamilySearch Library is an amazing research center! It has 57 computers, 10,000 books, magazines, and publications, 40,000 microfilm, 76,000 microfiche, and 420 CD’s. Also, there is a large British Isles collection of books and publications on their selves in their recently remodeled facility. Come join us on the last safari of the year! 4195 Camino Del Rio South.
